Mobile app phase two
The mobile app project is driven by student requirements and feedback. After it's launch we conducted a number of student focus groups in order to evaluate the app and give them the opportunity to suggest features or improvements. We then combined this with the comments from the various app stores to produce a roadmap for the next phase.
Project aims:
-
Refresh the design - new backgrounds and icons.
-
New versions of the maps - including the north campus and Oadby.
-
Add more 'places' information - detailing catering outlets, parking information and student services.
-
Images - instead of linking to a web gallery we'll take a feed from the University's Flickr channel.
-
News - subdivide the news into meaningful categories.
-
Feedback - create a specific icon for feedback about the app. The current default lightning bolt is barely visible.
-
Videos - link to all the video's on the University's YouTube site, categorised by the playlists.
-
Social - Change the link label to 'Get connected'. Add our Soundcloud, iTunes and Google+ channels and also link to the student blogs.
Other new features have been suggested and penciled in for phase two but until they are confirmed I won't promise them in black and white. Our aim is to launch this by Christmas 2013.
As with all web and mobile projects, the mobile app needs to constantly evolve so once this phase is complete we will review with more student user groups.
