The University's Registrar and Secretary Geoff Green has stated:
“The University of Leicester is aware of a number of incidents of racial abuse targeted at Chinese students.

“We have a zero tolerance policy towards any form of racism or discrimination, and any instances that come to our attention will be investigated.

“The welfare of our students remains our top priority – anyone who experiences discrimination or has any concerns is urged to contact us directly and seek support from the University’s wellbeing team.

“We are working hard to maintain a safe and welcoming community for all who come to the University - discrimination has no place on our campus.”

Coronavirus - further advice for students

Posted by bv39 at Jan 31, 2020 04:30 PM |

The Foreign Commonwealth Office (FCO) advise against all travel to Hubei Province due to the outbreak. If you’re in this area and able to leave, you should do so. They also advise against all but essential travel to the rest of mainland China. For full guidance and updates, please visit the FCO website.

If you are travelling or are based in China currently, I would also advise you to register on the University’s SafeZone app. Please download the app via the Apple or Android store.

If you have returned from China in the last 14 days, please follow the Public Health England guidelines.

During the coming weeks, more hand sanitisation points will be installed across campus including teaching spaces and communal areas in student halls of residence.

And please do keep following basic hygiene guidelines as advised by the World Health Organisation.

You can read updates about the situation from Public Health England and from the World Health Organisation.

If, having read the advice and guidance on the above webpages, you feel that you need to talk to somebody about the matter, please contact our Student Support team.

If you feel it is an urgent matter and you need more immediate medical advice, please contact the NHS on 111 or visit the NHS 111 website.
