As we continue to improve your Digital Learning Environment, here are a few updates to help you prepare for the new academic year.

Blackboard

For campus-based, undergraduate modules, a new Blackboard course is created for each module each year. You can find the Blackboard courses for this academic year on the ‘Current’ tab on the Blackboard home page. Any modules you studied in previous years will be listed on the ‘Previous’ tab.

New for this year is the ‘Student Life’ tab, where you can find resources to support your health and ideas for getting involved in university life. The module covers careers and placements, money, sports and groups, and wellbeing and safety, including how and where to report incidents and get support. You can also discover more about how we are Standing Together, to improve wellbeing through tackling unacceptable behaviours and supporting students, on our video. It is recommended everyone views the video.

Reflect lecture capture

Reflect lecture capture recordings are created to support your learning, for example to help you take notes and revisit complex ideas. You can find the recordings in Blackboard, or watch them in the Panopto app on your phone or tablet. For more details, see the Reflect website. Please also see the attached presentation for guidance on using the recordings to enhance your learning.

Top Hat

Your lecturers may use Top Hat to ask questions during a teaching session that you can answer on your phone, tablet or laptop. We have updated Top Hat so that it now uses your usual university username and password. If you previously had a Top Hat account, please follow the instructions to merge your accounts in the Android app, iOS app or web browser.
