Video of President and Vice-Chancellor's and Students' Union President's addresses now available.

This year for the very first time the University of Leicester held a matriculation ceremony for students. Matriculation is the official welcome to the University of Leicester, providing all first-year and foundation students with the opportunity to hear from the President and Vice-Chancellor and the President of the Students' Union about the University.

Professor Paul Boyle and Rachel Holland gave inspiring speeches to the new students, including detailing the opportunities available to them at the University, highlighting student initiatives and setting expectations of what students can expect from the University and what we expect from them.

Delivered at De Montfort Hall, the ceremony marks the start of their education and provides the perfect mirror to the end of their studies in the form of their graduation ceremony. It is not only a positive and enjoyable celebration of their achievement of reaching university but serves as a more formal welcome to the Leicester community.

Matriculation was held during Freshers' Week as part of the induction timetable and was the first of its kind at the University. An average of 800 students attended each of the four ceremonies, which also featured a performance from Voices, the University of Leicester gospel choir who won the University Gospel Choir of the Year 2015.

You can now watch a video of the ceremony online here – you will need to log in to Blackboard using your IT username and password.
