It is with great sadness that we can confirm that one of our students died in a road incident in Oadby in the early hours of Saturday morning. Our thoughts are with their family and friends at this difficult time.

This is being deeply felt across our University community. We are providing support to staff and students affected by this tragic loss. We will release more information when we can but as this is an ongoing police investigation we’re currently unable to provide further details.

For more information about helplines that are available for you, please visit the Student Help pages.

We can support you, just visit the Student Services Centre in the Charles Wilson Building:  open 8.30am to 6.30pm Monday to Thursday, and 8.30am to 4.30pm on Fridays (term time)

Telephone: 0116 252 2448

If you need to talk to someone out of normal working hours, the following numbers are available:

  • The Turning Point Crisis helpline provides support 24 hours a day, 365 days a year 0808 800 3302
  • The Samaritans provide a listening service 24 hours a day, 365 days a year on: 116 123
  • Nightline is a student-led anonymous telephone service providing listening, support and information services from 8pm to 8am every night: 0116 223 1230

While we would usually fly the Fielding Johnson Building flag at half-mast in these circumstances, the flagpole has been removed for routine maintenance and won’t be replaced until the start of February.

We’ll continue to keep the university community updated on this very sad news.
