University of Leicester Christmas charity appeal

It may seem a little early to be thinking about Christmas, but as the nights draw in we are launching a Charity donations scheme to benefit local communities.

This year we are collecting for three charities: Toys on the Table, Wishes for Kids and Leicestershire Cares. Both Toys on the Table and Wishes for Kids collect toys for children aged 0-16 who will not normally get a present or are suffering from serious illnesses. Every year students get involved in helping to wrap presents for children through the Toys on the Table campaign.

These gifts can be toys, games, books, toiletries, make-up, jewellery watches and much more. All gifts must be new and unwrapped and the charities ask that no toy weapons are donated.

Leicestershire Cares are collecting for the homeless and for women’s refuge. They need clothing and general household items. These can include sleeping bags, pillows, toiletries, toothpaste and brushes, combs, kitchenware, mugs, cutlery, pillowcases, blankets, gloves, hats and scarves. Again all gifts must be new and unwrapped.

We are hosting a number of collection points across the campus and you can bring your donations to any of these points from 1 November, or get in touch with Richard Gamble on 07748697511 or RJG28@le.ac.uk and he will collect them:

  • Post Room main campus
  • 21 University Road reception
  • John Foster reception
  • Maintenance Stores Charles Wilson building
  • Nixon Court reception
  • 154 Upper New Walk

The closing date for the collection is 6 December and weather permitting we will display all the donated items for everyone to come and see. You can still bring donations on the day or make a cash donation to whichever charity you wish to support.
