University commits to providing temporary safe space accommodation during coronavirus

Support available for those impacted by domestic violence

Whilst the situation surrounding COVID-19 changes every day, one marked effect of the lockdown restrictions is the increase of incidents and experiences of domestic violence around the UK. As a University, we have been Standing Together against unacceptable and deplorable behaviours such as domestic violence, since 2015, through our University-wide initiative which also includes providing support through Support for these such experiences can be sensitively provided by trained case workers in Student Support Services, even without having to formally report the incidents.

Given the recent increase in cases of domestic violence in line with lockdown restrictions, the University of Leicester has committed to provide temporary accommodation for our students who need to leave their current housing and have nowhere else safe to stay. This accommodation will be provided with no associated costs to students and the length of stay will be agreed on a case-by-case basis.
