The Student Voice Awards

Staff and students from across the University were recognised at the Students’ Union’s annual Student Voice Awards.

Every year Leicester Students’ Union hold the Student Voice Awards to celebrate the fantastic work of their student leaders, course reps, part-time officers, lead union reps and equality liberation champions.

On the evening of Thursday 30 May academic staff and students gathered in the O2 Academy to celebrate a fantastic year and the amazing successes of student leaders at the University. The evening also saw the presentation of Superstar Awards, which are given across a number of categories to deserving members of staff at the University.

The Superstar Award winners were:

  • Dr Steve Ennion from Health Sciences won the 'Best Lecturer' award for his commitment to excellent lecturing, which never went unnoticed.
  • Sheila Dennis from the Department of Education was awarded 'Best Personal Tutor'. Students truly appreciated her support and dedication.
  • Dr Sally Horrocks from the School of History, International Relations and Politics was awarded 'Best Supervisor' for her enthusiasm and unfailing support to students
  • Dr Hugo Williams of the Department of Engineering was recognised for 'Best Practice in Inclusive Learning and Teaching'. His devotion to improving the student experience was described as ‘exceptional’
  • Dr Matthew Allen from the School of Business was awarded 'Best Implementer of Student Feedback'. He was recognised for his empowering and dynamic approach to improving student engagement
  • Zyggy Banks from Career Development Services was awarded 'Best Support Staff Member' for the tremendous impact of his work behind the scenes on student experience

The evening also saw Angela Schmitz awarded the 'Course Rep of the Year' Award for her consistency, dedication and hard work representing students across the University.

The ceremony concluded with a celebration of the work of Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Student Experience Professor Jon Scott. Jon was recognised for his excellent service and outstanding contributions to the student experience at the University and received his award to a standing ovation. He said: “I am really touched to receive this award from our students at the University of Leicester Students’ Union. Thank you so much, it has been a privilege working with you.”
