The Big Sleep

Step out of your comfort zone to spend a night under the stars in support of a local homeless charity.

On Tuesday 20 March, we will be holding a ‘Big Sleep’ to raise money for a local homeless charity, The Bridge- Homelessness to Hope.

The Bridge is an outreach to the lost and lonely of Leicester; from the homeless who spend their time on the streets, to those who suddenly find themselves with nowhere to go and no one to turn to. The Bridge runs various projects, from mentoring people, providing warm clothes and hot food to giving advice to those who need it most; all of their services are vital to helping the homeless community in our local area.

In order to raise both awareness and money, we are giving up our beds for the night, so that we can experience some of the discomfort that the city’s homeless feel every single night. We are asking both staff and students to come along and brave the elements with us; bring cardboard, a sleeping bag and a hot flask and spend a night out on the Events Square. There will be activities for all of those involved to take part in and come together to help those who really need it.

We currently have confirmed attendance from the Students’ Union Sabbatical officers, Phil Baker (Head of the College of Life Sciences, Pro-vice-Chancellor Dean of Medicine, and also a Trustee of The Bridge,) Dave Hall (Registrar and Chief Operating Officer) and the Student Experience team. We need you to join in!

Get together with your housemates, course friends or your entire society or sports team and register to take part here.

The event will take place from 8pm-8am on Tuesday 20 March in the Events Square. To read more details about the event, sponsorship guidance and advice for the night, please have a look at our webpage.
