Since the launch of Make a Difference Weeks in October 2019, you've made an incredible impact through supporting causes in the local community.

The themed Make a Difference Weeks included practical volunteering, fundraising, campaigning and awareness raising.

Make a Difference in schools took place in October where over 150 enthusiastic student and staff volunteers spent a few hours in three local primary schools getting creative making clay diyas, door hangings, paper fireworks, rangoli patterns for Diwali. Volunteers also spent a morning supporting young children with their reading to help make reading a fun experience. Over 1000 children benefited from University of Leicester volunteers. Wolsey House Primary School commented: “The students were brilliant and were very helpful in the classroom".

November's  Make a Difference Week focused on benefiting the local community. 125 plant pots were decorated with shiny gems and ribbon which were then filled with a plant. Volunteers wrote messages of kindness which were attached to the plant before they were given away as part of World Kindness Day.  13 volunteers also befriended elderly residents in two Leicester care homes.

The final Make A Difference Week, in December 2019, centred on homelessness. The shoebox challenge was a huge success, with 72 shoe boxes were filled, wrapped and handed to The Y, a local youth homelessness charity.

Make a Difference Weeks are one-off volunteering activities that don’t require ongoing commitment, giving you the opportunity to gain experience and support your personal development, well-being and sense of community.

The next Make A Difference Weeks are Monday 10 to Friday 14 February (wellbeing themed), and Monday 16 to Friday 20 March (environment themed).
