Summer Graduation Ceremonies and Celebration Event Update

Celebrating the end of your studies

As we come towards the end of the term, now is the time that, in any normal year, students would start to feel that buzz of excitement about donning gowns and mortar boards and celebrating the end of their academic journey (or, for some, the start of their adventure in higher education). This summer it’s a bit different. The pandemic means we can’t celebrate graduations in-person at De Montfort Hall because of how close they would be to step 4 of the Government’s roadmap and continued uncertainty on large events safety. But that’s not going to stop us celebrating virtually.

Virtual Graduation Celebrations

On 29 and 30 July 2021, we will be holding virtual graduation celebrations, taking place on Zoom, which will celebrate the achievements of our students. There will be four college-level celebrations on the following dates:

  • Thursday 29 July, 11am – 11.30am: College of Life Sciences
  • Thursday 29 July, 3pm – 3.30pm: College of Science and Engineering
  • Friday 30 July, 11am – 11.30am: College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (Archaeology and Ancient History, Arts, Business and Criminology)
  • Friday 30 July 3pm – 3.30pm: College of Social Sciences, Arts and Humanities (Education, HyPIR, Law, Media, Comms and Sociology and Museum Studies)

Each virtual celebration will be hosted by the Heads of College, who, along with Heads of Schools and Departments, will congratulate the graduands and announce the winners of this year’s School prizes. There will also be messages from the VC and Students’ Union Exec officers, too.

Look out for more information and the Zoom links to attend coming soon.
