SU News: Support services update

Some of our services are moving whilst we redevelop the Percy Gee building

The Education Unit has opened this week in its new location within the main Students’ Union (SU) office.

We specialise in providing you with confidential, independent advice on a range of different issues and University processes including:

  • Mitigating Circumstances
  • Academic Appeals
  • Misconduct Issues
  • Complaints
  • Changing Course
  • Suspending or Withdrawing Studies
  • Issues with your course
  • Exam worries
  • Withdrawal from your course for non-attendance
  • Signposting/Accessing further support queries

We’re here to help Monday to Friday 10:00 – 16:00 and you can find out more about how we can support you and how to contact us here.


Our weekly free support services are continuing to run with some location changes to let you know of:

  1. Services that have moved to the Mezzanine floor in the Charles Wilson building:
    1. Headspace – Provides mental wellbeing sessions to find solutions and support for mental health issues, in particular stress and anxiety. Mondays & Wednesdays 11:00 – 15:00.
    2. Choices – Provides free & confidential sexual health advice, STI tests & Contraception (for under 25’s). Tuesdays 10:30 – 13:30.
    3. ISVA - Provides coordinated sexual and domestic violence services, for recent and historical experiences. Thursdays 10:30 – 13:30.
    4. Open Mind – Provides psychological assessment and treatment for mild to moderate common mental health problems. You complete the referral initially and the clinician contacts you and provides advice and next steps. See further details here.


  1. Other service updates:
    1. C-Card – Card scheme that gives under 25’s quick and easy access to free condoms. Locations are: 
      1. SU Reception – condom collection
      2. Education Unit – registration for the scheme and condom collection
    2. Dog therapy – Our Union Pup Vinnie retired at Christmas, so we hope to have a friendly successor in the near future. Look out for further communications on this via details below.
    3. Safe Space – This confidential listening and signposting service has become part of our Education Unit. This means if you would like to speak with one of our advisors to get guidance on which services can help you, get in touch with us via email, phone or drop-in and see us, find details here.
