Student Voice Awards

Staff and students from across the University were recognised at the Students’ Union’s annual Student Voice Awards 2021.

Every year Leicester Students’ Union hold the Student Voice Awards to celebrate the fantastic work of their student leaders, course reps, part-time officers, lead union reps and equality liberation champions.

On the evening of Thursday 27 May academic staff and students gathered virtually to celebrate a fantastic year and the amazing successes of student leaders at the University. The evening also saw the presentation of Superstar Awards, which are given across a number of categories to deserving members of staff at the University.

The Superstar Award winners were:

  • Prof. Andrew Hudson from School of Chemistry: won the 'Best Lecturer' award for his commitment to excellent lecturing, which never went unnoticed.
  • Dr. Eleanor Swan and Dr. Vrushant Lakhani from the School of Neuroscience, Psychology and Behaviour: were awarded 'Best Personal Tutor'. Students truly appreciated their support and dedication.
  • Prof. Jon Lapington from the School of Physics and Astronomy: was awarded 'Best Supervisor' for his commitment and unfailing support to students. ‘He has been an incredible support towards the research and mental health of all his PhD students.’
  • Dr Brett Matulis of the School of Geography, Geology and Environment: was recognised for 'Best Practice in Inclusive Learning and Teaching'. His devotion to improving the student experience was described as ‘exceptional’, ’even when time differences would have been a barrier’
  • Dr Barbara Powell from the School of Medicine: was awarded 'Best Implementer of Student Feedback'. She ‘recognises stress and problems amongst the cohort, implementing actions to mitigate students’ stress’
  • Mark Simmons from Active life: was awarded 'Best Supporting Staff Member' for the tremendous impact of his work behind the scenes on student experience, ‘helping student overcome the obstacles in using the gym and contributed massively to their health and fitness’
  • Krishan Kulkarni from Best GTA

The evening also saw 17 student leaders being recognised and awarded for their commitment to improve student experience and representing their peers here at Leicester Students’ Union.
