Student Bites: Wok You Like Fried Rice

Learn how to make tasty fried rice, inspired by Kwoklyn Wan's visit on Monday 25 March.

Fried rice is one of the simplest dishes you can cook and the beauty is you can add pretty much anything you like. Follow this simple and foolproof method from Kwoklyn Wan and you’ll be inventing new flavours every time you cook!


  • 1 bowl cooked Rice, cold or you can use pre-cooked packet rice.
  • ½ tbsp. Soy Sauce
  • 1 tsp Dark Soy Sauce
  • Salt to Taste
  • 1 tbsp. Oil
  • Drizzle Sesame oil (added at the very end)

Suggested Fillings: (All Optional)
  • ½ Onion (Diced)
  • ½ Red pepper
  • Tinned peas or sweet corn (drained)
  • Pineapple chunks
  • Bamboo shoots
  • Water chestnuts
  • Garlic Clove, crushed and finely chopped
  • 1 egg (beaten)


- In a non-stick deep sided wok heat the oil.

- Now you can add any raw veg, keep moving until softened and cooked.

- Next add the egg and cook for 30 seconds, now add the rice and cook for 2 to 3 minutes, (remember this is fried rice so your wok/pan needs to be hot, hot, hot, you should be able to hear the ingredients sizzling as you cook).

- Add seasoning (Soy sauce, salt etc.), if using peas or sweet corn add these now.

- Cook the rice until fully heated through.

- Taste and adjust seasoning as required.

- Drizzle over sesame oil and serve hot!
