On Wednesday 7 June, students were invited to the glamourous 2017 Student Awards ceremony that took place at The Athena in Leicester City Centre.

Hosted by Leicester Students’ Union and the University’s Career Development Service, guests were joined by sponsors, award leads and highly accomplished alumna Hawa Mansaray. Hawa graduated from the University in 2016 and, despite her young age, she has already published an award winning children’s book ‘The Tale of Frankie Fox and Terry Toad’. On returning to Leicester, Hawa said; “It's a humbling experience to be presenting at the Student Awards after having attended last year, the atmosphere is great!”.

Everyone dressed to impress on the night and Rachel Holland, President of the Students’ Union, presented a number of prestigious awards. One such award was the Student Group - Fundraising Group of the Year Award which went to Galaxy Radio for completing a broadcasting marathon. “We had a fantastic night and were thrilled to win the award” said Becca, Galaxy Radio’s Secretary. “It was obviously very gratifying to raise such a huge amount for a brilliant charity like Bloodwise, but winning the award was also a great way to celebrate the teamwork that went into the 69hr broadcast. It’s a great way to reward some of our members who went above and beyond, like Edward Rowson and Luke Stavenuiter, who barely slept all weekend to make sure everything ran smoothly!”.

There were some great photos shared on the night, be sure to keep your snaps coming using #UOLStudentAwards.

For everyone who was there, the evening was sure to be one to remember. Thank you to everyone who joined the celebrations and if you weren’t able to join us this year, we hope to see you at the 2018 Student Awards!

Congratulations to all of our winners, highly commended and shortlisted students. You can see a full list of the winners here. →
