Social distancing

To be sure we’re all doing the best thing for ourselves and for others, clear guidelines of how to social distance correctly are key. Remember, it’s crucial that we adhere to these steps in order to protect ourselves, our loved ones and the nation.

To minimise our risk of contracting COVID-19, we all need to keep our physical distance from each other. Simply put, if we stay far enough apart, it’ll be harder for the virus to reach us.

  • Stay away from someone who has COVID-19 or is displaying symptoms
  • Don’t use public transport unless it is essential
  • Work and study from home
  • Don’t gather in groups – large or small – inside or outside
  • Don’t gather with friends and family, even at home
  • Don’t accept visitors to the house and don’t visit others’ houses
  • If you need to go out for supplies, stay at least 2 metres away from other people. Imagine you’re holding a big broom – if you can’t touch someone with it, you’re far enough away

Everyone needs to practise social distancing to slow the spread of the virus and lessen the impact on our health service. Over 70s, people with an underlying health condition and pregnant women are most at risk and it’s even more crucial that they adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Please think of yourselves and also of others. Adhere to social distancing guidelines and together we can lessen the impact of the virus.
