Highlighting impactful women at the University of Leicester.

In celebration of International Women’s Day (IWD) this year, the University has come together to showcase inspirational women from our student and staff populations. From the virtual Wall of Women, created by Dr Turi King, featuring digital plaques with stories dedicated to the wonderful women that make up our University, to events that empower and highlight the achievements of women, this week aims to recognise the continuous hard work of women and to mark a call to action to advancing gender equality in every dimension of human life.

In a bid to continue to uplift women in sport, the Sport and Active Life team compiled an IWD collage of wonderful women in sport, alongside words of praise for each individual submitted by their peers.

Lucy Brogden, Sports Coordinator commented: "It was great to have so many students get involved in our Inspirational Women in Sport campaign and fantastic to celebrate so many women at the university doing so many inspiring things within our sporting community."

The nominations included:

  • Lauren Hampton - Running and Athletics
  • Georgia Henton - Cheerleading
  • Tamara Shanahan - Women’s Rugby
  • Isabelle Butcher - Women’s Rugby
  • Jennifer Dudson - Women’s Rugby

  • Kayla Mosher - Women’s Rugby
  • Hannah Glover – Boat Club
  • Louise Howell - Women’s Rugby
  • Kathrine Beckett - Women’s Rugby
