Security update

In light of the attack in Manchester earlier this week, our security department have been receiving a number of questions and requests for advice.

While we pride ourselves on the safety and security of the University campus and are fully prepared for any occurrence, we have responded over the past week with increased visible security patrols. We also wanted to give you some extra pieces of advice which the Government have passed to us.

The national Run, Hide, Tell video gives advice on what to do in the unlikely event of a weapons attack.

Leicestershire Police have given out HOT guidance on identifying suspect packages.

  • Hidden – has an attempt been made to conceal an item or place it where accidental discovery is unlikely? Innocent items aren’t usually hidden.
  • Obvious – Is the item obviously suspicious? Does it look like something you have seen before?
  • Typical – Is this the sort of item you’d expect to find there? Lost property is usually found where people congregate.

If you have any concerns or suspicion, then the first thing you should do is call security on 0116 252 2023 or in an emergency x2888.

The national threat warning has been reduced, and we cannot mitigate all of the risk but we are promoting vigilance throughout the university.
