The Rugby World Cup is in full swing (low sweet chariot), and with Leicester as one of the host cities, students at the University have a once-in-a-generation chance to be right at the heart of the action.

The games

There are three Rugby World Cup matches being played at the King Power Stadium, and tickets are still available for all of them.

  • Sunday 4 October at 2.30pm: Argentina v Tonga
  • Tuesday 6 October at 4.45pm: Canada v Romania
  • Sunday 11 October at 12pm: Argentina v Namibia

Please be aware that on Tuesday 6 October there is likely to be a lot more traffic on the roads, so please bear this in mind when planning your journey home.

The fanzone

At the University of Leicester we are lucky enough to have one of only 15 Rugby World Cup fanzones in the country right on our doorstep in Victoria Park. The fanzone is free to enter and allows you to soak up the atmosphere of the tournament with games on a giant 10m x 5.5m screen.

There will be hot and cold food, drinks, as well as a licensed bar and you can also find out all you need to know about getting involved in rugby locally as well as the opportunity to have a go for yourself.

The fanzone is open on:

  • Saturday 3 October from 12–10.30pm
  • Sunday 4 October from 11am–8pm
  • Tuesday 6 October from 3.30–10.30pm
  • Wednesday 7 October from 3.30–10.30pm
  • Friday 9 October from 3.30–10.30pm
  • Saturday 10 October from 11am–10.30pm
  • Sunday 11 October from 11am–10.30pm

The events

There are events going on around the country as part of the 2015 Festival of Rugby and the University of Leicester will be hosting some as the tournament brings rugby fever to the city. On Tuesday 6 October, we will be hosting O Canada – a day of Canadian thanksgiving, running from 12-3pm in advance of the Canada v Romania game later in the day. The University has one of the largest populations of Canadian students in the country and we would like to invite everyone along.

There are also two gigs at the Attenborough Arts Centre. Rugby Special will see performances from Highly Strung on Sunday 4 and 11 October which follow the games at the King Power Stadium. Find out more at the Attenborough Arts website.
