Reminder to stay safe around building works

There are a number of ongoing development projects across campus to update and improve our facilities.

Building sites can be dangerous places and require the use of hard hats and protective clothing. They also pose trip and fall risks. For your own safety, we’d like to remind you of the following:

  • Stay out of designated construction areas at all times. Access is prohibited.
  • Be aware of the risks of falling debris and construction related activities when moving close to construction sites.
  • Be aware of uneven surfaces.
  • Watch for slippery or muddy surfaces.
  • Make sure equipment operators can see you as you walk past.

The University will treat seriously any unauthorised person intentionally accessing a construction site for any reason. If you would like to report any incidents relating to the building work on campus, please contact the Student Support Team.

You can find out more about some of our current campus development projects below:

Brookfield campus development

We are upgrading our facilities at Brookfield, located just off London Road, to provide a bright, collegiate, health and productive working environment for students and staff in our School of Business.

Freemen’s Student Village

Our development plans for the Freemen’s Common site include high-quality residences for around 1,200 students, a café for both students and the wider community; a new 550-space multi-storey car park, a landmark Teaching and Learning Centre, as well as the sensitive refurbishment and extension of the Grade II-listed Freemen’s Cottages as the centrepiece of the scheme.

Percy Gee redevelopment

We’re extending and enhancing the eastern wing of the Percy Gee Building as part of our continued improvement of the student experience. The plans include a brand new spacious food court, a new Informatics lab. Student Services and Students’ Union Support Centre, a flexible open space to replace Queens Hall, and lots more study space.
