This year’s matriculation ceremony is now available to watch through Blackboard.

Matriculation is the official student welcome ceremony for foundation and first year undergraduate students, as well as those on Study Abroad and Erasmus+ programmes. It marks the beginning of students’ journeys through their degree – mirrored by graduation when they complete their studies.

This year, as part of Welcome Week, the ceremony, at De Montfort Hall, showcased what the University and Students’ Union had to offer in a vibrant, visual display.
Good luck messages from members of staff welcomed students as they came into the auditorium. President and Vice-Chancellor, Professor Paul Boyle provided a motivational address followed by academics sharing insights into their research. An inspiring employer panel providing top tips on how to make the most of University. Former University students – including Dan and Anna Flatt – who met whilst studying here, got married and who now work here, shared their stories. President Amy Moran and her executive team introduced the Students’ Union. Videos showcased the opportunities to get involved at the University and student support initiatives.

Students were also given a copy of one of Read at Leicester’s 2018 book choices: The Good Immigrant, edited by Nikesh Shukla, and Becky Chambers’ The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet.

Over 3,300 students were invited to matriculation.

Feedback from students included that matriculation was ‘welcoming’, ‘unforgettable’ and ‘helpful’.
