An update on the Library's annual book selection campaign

For the past few weeks, the Library has been running our Read at Leicester book selection campaign, where we’ve been gathering suggestions from staff and students on which book we should buy and give out to all our students next year.

We’ve been out speaking to students across campus about which books they think deserve to be read by everyone. We’ve also been running a campaign to get suggestions via social media through our #LeicsGetLit hashtag, and some of you may have also noticed the little red book suggestion post-box which has been making its way across campus! So far we’ve received hundreds of suggestions from staff and students, and a few endorsements from famous authors along the way, including Mary Beard, Akala, Brent Weeks and Angela Saini!

Most importantly, we have been able to engage with our students and talk to them not just about what encourages them to read, but which books have had the most profound impact on them. The suggestions we’ve had so far include books that make our students cry with laughter, motivate them during exam periods and inspire them to pursue their interests. We’ve had so many great suggestions so far from passionate students and staff, and our next step is to start narrowing down our long list into a shortlist.

Suggestions are still open for a couple more weeks, and if you haven’t told us which book should be next year’s Read at Leicester text, you can let us know via this link, or by contacting the Library via Facebook or Twitter.
