Percy Gee renovation: demolition to begin

The expansion of the Percy Gee Building to provide a vibrant, student focused space at the heart of campus is now well under way.

The project will extend and enhance the eastern wing of the building to provide a spacious food court, alternative facilities and multi-use spaces.

Next week will see the start of the demolition work to the east side of the building, which is an essential part of the project progression. The work will involve a machine operating on a floor by floor basis to take down the roof, façade and the front section of the Percy Gee so you will see a noticeable change to the appearance of the building.

This stage of the works is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete.

We are aware that the exam period is about to begin. A ‘no noisy works’ policy is in place during the exam period and we will do everything we can to ensure that our students are not impacted by the works.

Throughout the demolition process there will be a noticeable increase in activity within the compound. As you would expect, measures will be put in place to ensure the health and safety of anyone working within, or walking past, the compound.

More information about the Percy Gee project can be found on the Campus Development webpages.

If you have any questions about the works or the overall project, the Percy Gee project team run a coffee morning every Thursday in the square in the Students’ Union, 10am-12pm which anyone is welcome to attend.
