Students and staff rally together for local and national causes

RAG and Wellbeing Week returned with a bang last week as both staff and students ran, jumped, laughed and sang in aid of raising money for good causes.

So far this academic year, RAG has raised an astonishing £13,096.11, supplemented with an additional £2785.5 from the University's student group fundraising competition. On top of this, £439.20 was raised during RAG and Wellbeing Week.

RAG and Wellbeing Week had three goals: to celebrate the fantastic fundraising and giving activity already taking place, to promote positive mental, physical and emotional wellbeing and to join together to raise even more money for charity.

To enable students tackle the issues that mattered to them, student groups could apply to be part of the fundraising competition, where they were awarded with £50 funding in order to kick-start their individual campaigns.

Professor Jon Scott, Pro-Vice Chancellor of Student Experience here at the University said: “It’s been great to see so many students and staff coming together to take part in RAG and Wellbeing Week this year despite the cold weather. Everyone was in good spirits and we’re pleased to be able to support local and national charities, helping to continue to their fantastic work to help others.

Staff and students raised money for a charity of their own choice or chose to support the University’s selected charities, which were. :

  • The University-based charity WACIT (World Awareness for Children in Trauma) which raises awareness on child mental health and highlights the needs of children who suffer trauma worldwide
  • Local Leicester charity LAMP (Leicestershire Action for Mental Health Project) which provides mental health support and awareness across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland
  • National charity Rethink Mental Illness, providing mental health support across the UK

Thank you for everyone who was involved in both organising the events, and participating in them! Watch this space for more RAG events in the near future.
