Every young person deserves a safe place to call home. The Y Leicester provides young people with support and accommodation but they need your help.

Could you and your friends fill a shoebox with toiletries and essentials for a homeless young person?

Items for the Shoebox challenge will need to be new and unused and can include the following:

  • Shampoo
  • Condition
  • Shower gel
  • Deodorant
  • Razors
  • Face flannel
  • Toothpaste
  • Toothbrush
  • Mouthwash
  • Tea bags, coffee, sugar
  • Pen and pad
  • Cup, bowl, plate, cutlery
  • Socks

What to do

  • Step 1: Find a medium sized shoebox
  • Step 2: Decide and agree on which items your team will fill it with from the list
  • Step 3: Wrap the shoe box and lid separately or drop off the shoe box to be wrapped by student volunteers. Filled shoe boxes can be dropped off in the Students' Union Square on Thursday 5 December between 12.00pm-5.00pm.

The shoebox challenge is part of Make a Difference Week: an opportunity for students and staff to make a positive difference through supporting causes that impact the local community. December's theme is homelessness and takes place between Monday 2 December and Friday 6 December. Activities include homelessness outreach, volunteer training session and fundraising with the Raising and Giving Society. Sign up at www.le.ac.uk/make-a-difference.
