Leicester Fiesta brings year to a close

Hundreds of students got involved with our end of year celebration, as we took over campus with music, art and delicious food and drink.

Wednesday 29 May saw a variety of activities and workshops take place across campus, including welfare workshops, a CV clinic and book swap. These helped prepare students for summer, as they gained whatever last minute advice and guidance they needed.

On Thursday, our incredible student performers wowed audiences throughout the day on Centenary Square, with the mix of entertainment reflecting the diverse talents of our student groups. These included Asian and Swing Dance societies, the African Caribbean Society’s Cultural Fashion Show and a cheer and stunt performance from Leicester Panthers. Meanwhile on the Fielding Johnson Lawn a variety of arts and craft stalls welcomed students and the local community, accompanied by a schedule of spoken word performers. Alongside these, Plan-It Change Society brought their pop up shop – a innovative project which promotes zero waste living. Overall 181 students performed or supported the event.

The fiesta was brought to a close with the inimitable University of Leicester Big Band, who drew a huge crowd on the square as they performed a mix of iconic jazz and modern tunes. It was a fitting end to a day of celebration that showcased the fantastic achievements of our students this year.

If you’re still with us throughout summer, there are still plenty of events and activities happening on and off-campus, including our fortnightly Global Café. Head over to www.le.ac.uk/student-events for a full list.
