Improving Your Sleep for a Better You

Find out what happens to your brain and body when you fall asleep (or don’t).

Just take forty winks and when you wake up everything’ll be fine, at least that’s according to the protagonist of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s 1924 story Gretchen’s Forty Winks. But what truly happens when you sleep?

Thankfully you’ll have the chance to find out during our next lunchtime talk, which will be presented by three University academics – Dr Michael Okun, Dr Tamara Gheorghes and Dr Volko Straub.

They will look at:

  • The function and stages of sleep.
  • What happens when we don’t sleep enough, including the effect on memory and learning.
  • Lifestyle habits that can influence a better quality of sleep.

The event is free and will take place at 12:00pm on Friday 15 March in Lecture Theatre 3, Ken Edwards Building. It's being hosted as part of #WorldSleepDay.

Register your interest here.

Just make sure you get enough sleep the night before so you don’t fall asleep halfway through!
