As we look forward to our centenary, the University of Leicester together with the Leicester Literary and Philosophical Society will be holding a joint lecture entitled History and Memory: 100 years of the University of Leicester.

Professor Gordon Campbell FBA will deliver the lecture that will explore the involvement of the Literary and Philosophical Society in the establishment of the University, including how the initial suggestion came about in 1885 by the society President, Reverend Joseph Wood.

Professor Campbell is a Renaissance and seventeenth-century specialist with broad interests in cultural history, art, architecture, legal history and theology.

The lecture will take place on Monday 22 October and will be followed by a drinks reception in the Council Suite. To find out more about the event, and how to register, please have a look at our events page.
