We are working to create the first ever University Yellow Book for positive mental health and are asking for your artistic submissions!

We are pleased to announce that the University of Leicester is collaborating with rethinkyourmind to create the first ever university version of The Yellow Book.

The Yellow Book is a positive, creative resource developed by those with experience of mental health challenges and endorsed by professionals with the aim to educate, aid and support.

We're asking you to positively express wellbeing by submitting art, poetry and photography that relate to #IFeelBetterWhen. Submissions are open until the 16 November. Visit the website to make a submission.

All submitted artwork will be assessed by a panel of local artists, who will select pieces that will form ‘The UoL Yellow Book’ based on how well they express what makes the artist feel better.

This could be the process of creating the artwork itself or be expressed in the pieces for example: ‘#IFeelBetterWhen …  I am playing football.’ could be a submitted poem, photo or other visual artwork.

We encourage people to look at previous entries that have been selected in other Yellow Book projects on for ideas.

This art project is open to all abilities and we hope many students and staff get involved to spread a positive message about mental health and wellbeing.

If you would like to attend a workshop to develop a piece to submit, we can recommend the following opportunities to do so:

  • The Attenborough Arts Centre run many arts workshops as part of their Creative Learning. If you are interested in finding out more, please visit their website
  • If you are aware of other art sessions running over the submission period, please do let us know so we can promote it by emailing the details to

The UoL Yellow Book will launch at the Attenborough Arts Centre on 15 March 2019, with a prize ceremony for those who created the final artworks for the book. The original pieces will be displayed in the Balcony Gallery and will be open to all.
