We need your ideas on how to tackle gender-based intimidation, harassment and violence on campus.

Leicester is one of the United Nations’ HeForShe IMPACT Champions and as part of that we are organising a Global Ideathon on Tuesday 29 November to tackle gender-based violence on campus.

A 2015 survey of British universities showed that one in three female students and one in eight male students have been sexually assaulted or abused on campus.

The University and Students' Union already work alongside each other to deliver the 'Standing Together' campaign which is based upon a zero tolerance attitude towards gender violence and harassment.

We want you to help us come up with more ideas for dealing with this pressing issue which affects everyone (by ‘violence’ we mean all forms of intimidation and harassment, not just physical assault). On the 29 November there are two ways that you can do this.

  • Between 11.00am and 2.00pm there will be a stall in the centre of campus (between the Library and the Union)where you can submit your idea for change in a suggestion box and make a HeForShe commitment by leaving your painted hand print with a message on our huge collage.
  • The Ideathon itself, between 4.00pm and 6.00pm, which will be a facilitated discussion in the Council Suite. Capacity is limited for this so please request a place via the Ideathon webpage.

From all the ideas we receive on the day (via both the suggestion box and the facilitated discussion) we will pick three that will be pitched directly to UN Women via a short video.

Find out more and request your place on the Ideathon webpage.
