Do you write creatively? Want to be published in a student anthology?

We are offering all of our students the chance to submit their creative work for the 2015/16 issue of The New Luciad.

The New Luciad is compiled by the Department of English but will accept entries from any student currently studying at the University. Your work should be unpublished creative writing including: plays, short stories, poetry, flash fiction and extracts from novels, as well as works of creative non-fiction (such as travel writing and reportage), artwork and photography.


  • Prose – no more than 3000 words
  • Poetry – no more than 100 lines
  • Artwork/ Photography – no more than 5 pieces

We ask for your submissions to be sent in a separate Word document, double spaced with font size no smaller than 11. If sending images of artwork and photography, please send in separate jpeg files.

These submissions will be anonymous, so please state your name in an accompanying email and not in the files themselves. Instead, all files should be named with the title of the piece.

You are welcome to submit as many pieces of work as you like across all three categories, providing your total word limit is not exceeded.

Please email your submissions to by 5.30pm on Friday 30 April. Early submission is encouraged.
