How you and your family can get involved

In support of Children’s Mental Health Week, 1-7 February, the UK Student Recruitment and Outreach team need your support. We know how challenging this pandemic is for children across the country and the team want to do whatever they can to help.

The theme of the week is ‘Express Yourself’ and the UK Student Recruitment and Outreach team is tackling this across two strands, Activity and Fundraising, and are encouraging students, both at home and in school, to get involved.

1. Medicine Calling

An event for 200 Year 10 and 11 students all focusing on careers in mental health.

2. Two additional careers in mental health talks for secondary schools

The sessions will introduce students to careers in mental health, including their next steps to get there. They will be accessible to all secondary school students in years 7-11. The talks take place at the following times:

Wednesday 3 February, 5.00-5.45pm: students can sign up via the talk booking form

3. A competition to encourage primary and secondary school students to step away from their screens and reflect on what makes them happy.

The competition is open to interpretation and creativity with students being able to submit painting, poems, videos and more. The competition went live on 1 February and the deadline for submissions is 12 February. If you’re currently homeschooling, you might like to try this with your children, and feel free to share with family and friends. For more information and to sign up, click here.

4. Directing schools and colleges to some activities organised centrally by Place2Be.

This is the organisation who are coordinating the campaign, and they are hosting events such as free mental health training for teachers.

Last but not least, the team are also hoping to raise a bit of money to support the campaign. They're collecting donations for an ERD colleague virtual charity pot via a JustGiving page. There’s no pressure to donate, but all money will go towards helping children in need.
