Celebrating Diwali on campus

Come and join us for food, dancing and candle making!

Relive the story of Diwali as we bring the Hindu Festival of Lights to campus! The most popular of all the festivals from South Asia, Diwali is a major date in the Leicester calendar, with the city’s celebrations being the biggest outside of India. The word Diwali comes from the Sanskrit word deepavali, meaning ‘rows of lighted lamps’.

Please celebrate Diwali with us on campus on 2 November 12-4pm, on the Events Square. You can sample some street food, enjoy vibrant rangoli patterns, and watch a special performance at 3pm. You can also get creative by creating your own Diya (Diwali candle) or decorating a Diwali mask. Our celebrations are open to staff and students and we would love to see you all there!
