Call the Midwife: The Birth of Midwifery Education and Leadership in Leicester
The challenges surrounding midwifery in the UK are growing. Around a third of all midwives will be nearing retirement age in the next few years. It means improving leadership within maternity and health services is a top priority, especially as the needs of today's childbearing population are more diverse than ever before.
It's these issues that led to the introduction of several midwifery education courses here at the university, including the Midwifery with Leadership MSci. The course is being led by Professor Jayne Marshall, who will now present a timely inaugural lecture.
Jayne will take us on a journey through her own midwifery education and leadership career. She will explore the important role that leadership plays in educating and inspiring leaders within the midwifery profession. The aim is to ensure that the delivery of maternity care within Leicester and beyond, remains safe and of high quality.
The event will take place on Monday 25 March at 6.00pm in Frank and Katherine May Lecture Theatre - Henry Wellcome Building.
The event is of charge and open to all. It will be followed by a drinks reception.
