Staying Safe

Travelling around the University and Victoria Park

If you are on campus, or close to campus, in line with the University and Government guidelines, here are some useful tips on staying safe.

When travelling please consider the following:

  • Travelling home alone? Consider taking a pre-booked taxi. Only a ‘black cab’ should stop for you at the roadside, all other taxis must be booked in advance. If using an Uber, consider sharing the ride details with friends.
  • If using public transport, check the times of the last bus or train.
  • Be aware of your surroundings and stay alert. Listening to music or talking on the phone may distract you.
  • If you are walking home at night try to use well lit streets and a route you are familiar with.
  • Keep mobile phones, tablets and other valuable items out of sight.
  • Try not to walk along wearing earphones or on video chats, be aware of your surroundings.


Victoria Park

There are three routes on Victoria Park that are covered by CCTV, lighting and are part of our Safezone. If travelling across the park, please ensure you use these routes:

Route one:
- Attenborough Building entrance using perimeter path towards War Memorial

Route two:
- Attenborough Building entrance crossing directly across the park to Victoria Park road close to junction of Queen's road

Route three:
- Attenborough Building entrance using perimeter path towards Victoria Park road past Victoria Park Medical Centre
