Summer closure of University Sports facilities

To reap the full benefits of the University’s recent £10 million investment in sport both sports centres have to close for a period during this summer whilst improvement works take place.

The indoor facilities at Manor Road will close on Sunday 1 July for two months. They will re-open in early September. This is to allow the new facilities to be joined to the old and the foyer reconfigured to add a treatment room and lift. In addition, the lights in the existing sports hall will be changed for low energy LEDs and the Taraflex floor renewed. Outdoor facilities at Manor Road i.e. tennis courts, 5-a-side pitch and sand-filled all-weather pitch are unaffected and will open for use from lunchtime onwards.

The new University Sports Centre on main campus will close immediately after the graduation ceremonies in mid-July. The exact period of closure is still uncertain as the work to be completed has yet to be fully defined.

Throughout the summer Greenhouse 2 Health & Fitness Club on main campus will remain open, as indeed, will the Charles Wilson Sports Hall.

During the months of July and August individual payroll deductions for use of the sports facilities will not be made for all staff sports members.

We apologise to all sports users for the loss of these facilities but we will return bigger and better than ever for the new academic year!
