New Student Services Centre

Work is starting on a new Student Services centre in the Charles Wilson building which will bring most of our student-facing services together in one place for the first time.

A successful small-scale trial of a Student Services centre in the Fielding Johnson Building took place at the start of the 2015/16 academic year, and the positive feedback from students has helped us make the decision to create a permanent home for Student Services at the heart of campus.

The Charles Wilson Building foyer will be redeveloped to create a one-stop reception area, with the supporting offices moving to the 5th, 7th and 9th floors of the building. Student Welfare, Counselling and Wellbeing, Registry and Fees Payment, Unitemps and Career Development will all find a new home in Charles Wilson ahead of the 2016/17 academic year.

We have decided to create the new Student Services Centre in order to reduce confusion, give students one reception area which is able to deal with the majority of their queries and ensure that we give a high level of service for all students at their first point of contact. It will also enable there to be more joined-up working between the different teams as appointments for careers, counselling and welfare will be made together, allowing us to identify any extra support that students may need more efficiently than we currently do.

Over the summer we will see a number of changes and moves, and we would ask colleagues to be patient during this process. Obviously there will be some disruption, but we believe that the end result will make this disruption worthwhile for both students and the staff affected. The space vacated in the Percy Gee Building will be used to develop new retail and other outlets.

Work is due to start in early July and we aim to have the new Centre up and running by the start of the new academic year.

If you have any further questions about the moves, please email askus@le.ac.uk. We will post the responses to any questions on this page.
