Professor Paul Boyle visits MIRA Technology Park and ASDEC

On Friday 14th November, Professor Paul Boyle (pictured) visited the MIRA Technology Park at Nuneaton.

MIRA Technology Park is a 87.5 hectare, 1.5 million square foot development in the MIRA Enterprise Zone which is aimed at delivering bespoke R&D centres ranging from start up facilities right up to major European R&D operations for the transportation sector. Slide2.JPG

The University of Leicester is the UK's first University to develop a facility on the Technology Park as it has located its Advanced Structural Dynamics Evaluation Centre (ASDEC) there.  ASDEC works with industry to deliver 3D laser vibrometry and modal analysis consultancy and research. Additionally, the University of Leicester is one of the partners in a £9.5M development to develop the engineers of the future through the purpose-built MIRA Enterprise Zone Skills Centre with MIRA, North Warwickshire & Hinckley College and Loughborough University.

During his visit, Professor Boyle met with MIRA CEO George Gillespie and Commercial Director Terry Spall.  He was driven on the wet handling circuit where an instructor demonstrated how people are taught car control and then had a tour of the facilities available on the MIRA proving ground.  Professor Boyle also discussed the future developments of the Technology Park with MIRA and visited ASDEC to see the Kuka Robot and 3D laser vibrometer in action demonstrating how structural vibration can be measured on a new model car body shell.
