President and Vice-Chancellor presents certificate of appreciation to Dr Frank May MBE

To acknowledge his support to the University, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Paul Boyle presented Dr Frank May MBE with a certificate of appreciation on the occasion of the Frank May Clinical Sciences Lecture 2015 on 18 November. In 1991 Frank gave an endowment to establish the biennial Frank May Prize Lecture and the Frank May Clinical Sciences Lecture.

This year’s Clinical Sciences Lecture was given by Dr Jeremy Farrar, CEO of the Wellcome Trust. Those attending the lecture last week heard about Dr Farrar’s career spent in South-East Asia, where he has contributed to better understanding, surveillance, prevention and treatment of diseases including emerging infections, influenza, tuberculosis, typhoid and dengue.

Over the years, the Clinical Sciences Lecture series has brought well-known figures from the biomedical research sector here to Leicester to talk to us about key issues. The Prize Lecture is based on evidence of research excellence during the previous two years and evidence of outstanding promise for the future.
