Forensic pathologist receives prestigious appointment

Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine honours Professor Guy Rutty

The Faculty of Forensic and Legal Medicine has announced the appointment of Professor Guy Rutty MBE, the Head of the East Midlands Forensic Pathology Unit based at Leicester, to the prestigious David Jenkins Memorial Chair for 2015/16.

The FFLM, hosted by the Royal College of Physicians, is a charity set up to develop and maintain the highest possible standards of competence and professional integrity in forensic and legal medicine. Their David Jenkins Memorial Chair in Forensic and Legal Medicine is awarded on an annual basis to a person of eminence in the field.

The award is for one year and there is a precondition that the recipient undertakes some form of research linked to forensic and legal medicine and present that work at the FFLM Annual Conference. Professor Rutty is a world-leading forensic pathologist and an expert in non-invasive autopsies, specifically in the application of radiology and imaging.

Professor Rutty’s appointment was announced at the Faculty’s Annual Conference in Bournemouth 1 May.

Commenting on his appointment, Professor Rutty said: “It is a great honour to be recognised by the Faculty for my contribution to forensic and legal medicine in this way.”
