We have been notified of the death, on 19 February, of Dr Wren Hoskyns  (Sir Edwyn Wren Hoskyns, Bart).  Dr Hoskyns, who was 59, was an Honorary Clinical Teacher of the University, and was well known to staff of the Medical School and to many generations of medical students.

A University colleague has provided the following tribute:

“He was an exceptional clinician who continued to make a positive contribution to Child Health teaching.  He contributed to small group teaching, bed-side teaching and examinations.

“He worked in both neonatal medicine and general paediatrics.  He had close links with the community.  He had an interest in infectious disease and published papers with colleagues on tuberculosis and the outbreak that occurred in Leicestershire.

“He was kind and generous and supported trainees and fellow colleagues.  He was an ‘old-fashioned’ clinician in the best sense of the word, always putting patients and their families first.”

The funeral is to be held on Thursday 5th March during the afternoon at Cosby church. Donations to either the Leicester Gondar hospital link or Medicines Sans Frontiers.
