Empowering and engaging learners: staff-student partnerships in learning development

Tuesday, 5 May 2015 (2.00-3.30pm)

Course overview

The Students as Partners approach actively encourages students to work collaboratively with academic staff to shape their own learning experiences. Staff-student partnerships can be beneficial to both students and staff for several reasons. Firstly, students are likely to have the most recent and relevant experience of the challenges that they and other students are likely to face. Secondly, student partners are well placed to develop learning resources based on real-life examples and experience, which can make challenging content more applicable and engaging for other students. Lastly, student partners may benefit from the opportunity to develop employability skills and receive accreditation to evidence their contribution and skills development.

Who is it for?

Any member of staff engaged in teaching, but particularly those looking for innovative ways to improve learning and teaching of challenging material and/or skills.
