Your new staff Workspace launching soon

In case you weren’t aware, we’re soon to launch a brand new internal website for staff – MyWorkspace.

You will soon be able to view your new Workspace, currently linked from the current staff homepage, and view and search content in there. This is in preparation for the replacement of the current staff homepage in mid-April.

This new workspace is built in Sharepoint and uses all the different tools available within Office 365 to provide a personalised and interactive ‘intranet’ to help you through your day at work.

What’s different?

A brand new homepage which only you will see shows latest news and information as well as your unread emails and schedule, a Yammer feed, and your recently accessed OneDrive files. To encourage interactivity, you can access Yammer groups or the main feed directly from a webpage to add your thoughts, get news and interact. Many people have told us they don’t use Yammer because “it’s another place to visit”. So we’re making it part of your staff Workspace.

One of the major criticisms of Plone is the search function. Search is at the heart of Sharepoint and we encourage you to use search in addition to the improved task-based navigation. That’s why we’ve put the search box front and centre in the new homepage. You can see the layout of the revised homepage at the top of this article.

What’s in there?

We have been working with Corporate and Professional Services staff to pull their information into the new workspace and we’ll continue to do so as we prepare for launch in mid-April. We have been working to address your comments about our current website and have a clear governance and approval structure for content in MyWorkspace.

What’s next?

This is only phase one of the staff Workspace project, there’s still lots to do, but we hope that this gives you a flavour of what to expect. There are some areas we are still working with - the Library, Leicester Learning Institute and Departments – to ensure that they have the right solution. Many forms will be hosted within Plone in the short term as we create the right solution in MyWorkspace, and student content will remain there too while we work on a new website for students. News will also be looked at and we hope to provide you with a great news feed and calendar to help you find out what’s going on at Leicester.

If you have any feedback please let us know in the Digital Campus Yammer group.
