An agreement between our University and the Arab Academy of Science, Technology and Maritime Transport (AASTMT) was recently signed agreeing on a process for us to ‘endorse’ their teacher training course.

Professor Paul Boyle signs the Quality Endorsement agreement with Arab Academy President, Professor Dr. Ismail Abdel Ghafar Ismail Farag in London.

Endorsement of courses in overseas Universities is a fantastic way to spread the University of Leicester's international profile, and to export our outstanding higher educational model across the world. Initiatives like this allow us access to international students who wouldn't usually consider studying at the University of Leicester, but may do following completion of an endorsed course.

The process of endorsement in this case, took around six months and involved two visits to Alexandria by staff from The English Language Teaching Unit (ELTU). Philip Horspool, the Director of ELTU said: "The endorsement of this training programme and certificate offers AASMT the opportunity, through engagement with our department, to collaborate with recognised English Language Teaching experts. This will help AASMT to adopt best practice and improve standards.

"The process is on-going and further help with curriculum development is offered. It is hoped that this will lead to further opportunities for collaboration between the two institutions. AASTMT are able to use our endorsement to better promote their course in the region which is helping to raise the international profiles of both AASTMT and the University of Leicester."

This Quality Assurance endorsement scheme could be used by other departments across the university in order to further engagement with international partners. If you would like to find out more and get involved, please visit the ELTU website

If you would like more information about the process, the documentation involved and the potential benefits, please contact: Philip Horspool.
