The sun is shining, the daffodils are blooming and the University is closing for Easter.

From Thursday 13 April until Wednesday 18 April, the University is closed for the Easter break.  While the University’s sports and recreation facilities will be open as usual, with the exception of Good Friday (14 April) and Easter Monday (17 April) when weekend hours (8.00am - 8.00pm) will be in place, the library will be operating reduced hours. There are many egg-citing activities across Leicester and Leicestershire during the recess, below are a couple of events which you may be interested in attending.

To all our staff, have a wonderful Easter!

Thursday 13 April (Maundy Thursday)

  • The Queen will visit Leicester Cathedral for the annual Maundy Service. Accompanied by His Royal Highness the Duke of Edinburgh, Her Majesty will observe the tradition of handing out Maundy money to 91 men and 91 women. The Maundy Service begins at 11.00am and will be preluded by a convoy around the city centre beginning at Humberstone Gate and ending at Jubilee Square. Big screens on Jubilee Square and beside the Clock Tower will broadcast the service and parade.

Friday 14 April (Good Friday)

  • The University of Leicester String Quartet will be performing at the church of St James The Greater on London Road. The service will take place between 1.00pm and 3.00pm.
