Chris has raised over £800 for Keep The Beat!

Chris Poole, timetabling officer in the University's Registry Office, took part in the Bosworth Half Marathon on Sunday 14 May. At the time of publication, Chris has raised £885 for Keep The Beat who are a charity established to provide hope and support to the families affected by congenital heart defects. Keep The Beat have been particularly renown recently for their opposition to the potential closure of the Children's Heart Centre at Leicester's Glenfield Hospital and continue to support the specialist service.

Having completed the race in 1 hour 52 minutes and 46 seconds, Chris says that he is "really happy given that my goal time was 2 hours and it was a very hot day!". The race was the first half marathon that Chris has taken part in and he has described it as "very much a milestone on my own health and weight loss journey. The half marathon marks the point where I stand some 12 stone lighter than I did in 2015! This is something I never thought I would be remotely capable of when I started on my own weight loss adventure around 2 years ago".

"I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who sponsored me as I managed to raise £800, which far exceeds what I thought might be possible. Their generosity is hugely appreciated both by me and by the Keep the Beat charity".

Despite smashing his £200 target, Chris is still accepting donations for Keep The Beat through Just Giving. →

Congratulations Chris from everyone at the University of Leicester!
