Discuss the future of artificial intelligence with a free screening of Ex Machina, followed by the launch of a new report discussing the impact of AI in the workplace.

What risks do people face when technology is used to make workplace decisions? Do the benefits of algorithmic decision-making outweigh traditional human intuition? These will be the subject of a talk by Dr Phoebe Moore, who was recently commissioned by the European Agency for Safety and Health at Work (EU-OSHA) to produce a report about the possible issues surrounding AI in the workplace.

Phoebe will be discussing her report which considers whether mechanisation in factories and offices are putting workers at risk of heightened stress and over-work. To ponder how technological changes threaten to disrupt workplace decisions, from automation at the factory-line to prioritisation of big data in management decisions.

The event is part of the Talkies and will begin with a screening of Ex Machina – Alex Garland’s 2014 existential drama about a programmer invited to administer a Turing test to an intelligent humanoid robot. A panel discussion will follow.

The event will take place 20 February 17:00 at Charles Wilson, Fourth Floor 403.
