The University has been chosen by an independent company to input into a research study to gauge staff views on their needs from the USS pension scheme.

They are looking for staff to attend a small (12 people) focus group session for two hours on 21 August on behalf of the Joint Expert Panel (JEP) on the Universities Superannuation Scheme. The Panel has been jointly established by UCU and UUK following the agreement reached through ACAS in March 2018.

The results of this research will provide the JEP with a more informed view of the needs of scheme members and non-members and will help the JEP meet its objective to secure the long-term sustainability of the scheme.

These sessions are designed to be interactive and give everyone the chance to participate in group discussions and exercises and complete tasks set by the moderator. The moderator is independent of the Joint Expert Panel, USS, and the negotiating process.

There will not be any opportunity in the session for participants to ask questions to the moderator about the nature of the scheme or the work of the Joint Expert Panel, nor to give their views on other areas not covered by the research.

There will be £30 M&S voucher provided to each attendee as a small token of our appreciation for their assistance. There are a small number of people who would not be eligible to attend, these are:

  • Current or past trustee directors of USS;
  • Current or past member (or alternative member) of the USS Joint Negotiating Committee;
  • Current or recent past (three years) attendee the UUK Employers Pension Forum;
  • Current or recent past (three years) attendee at the UCU Superannuation Working Group.
  • Union representative
  • Those with an academic interest in the area

The session will be recorded and video clips will be used as part of the final presentation to the Joint Expert Panel in August. No clips will be used for external communications purposes.
