Message on behalf of Kerry Law - Chief Marketing Executive Officer

I am delighted to announce the appointment of Steve O’Connor as Special Adviser to the Vice-Chancellor for Advancement and Civic Engagement. Many colleagues will already know Steve, who was Leicester’s first Director of Development from 2008 to 2016, before his move to the University of Bristol as Director of Development and Alumni Relations.

During his time at Bristol, Steve has worked closely with the executive team and leading academics to significantly grow philanthropic income and revitalise alumni engagement with the University.

Steve will report to the Vice-Chancellor and work closely with me to advise the leadership team on advancement, community and civic engagement matters. A key focus for Steve’s role will be helping to maximise opportunities for cultivating and securing strategic level philanthropic funding and the engagement of alumni and friends for major initiatives and projects, including our upcoming Centenary celebrations. Steve will also support me in a review of the PACE strategy, operations and structure, and lead on the development of a distinctive case for philanthropic and engagement support for the University’s Strategic Plan.

Steve will re-join us in April, working three days a week from the Vice-Chancellor’s and External Relations offices. Nishan and I are confident that Steve’s extensive advancement and leadership experience in the higher education and charity sector, together with his deep understanding of Leicester’s local community and alumni and friends network, will be a huge asset as we seek to realise our future shared ambitions for the University.

I am very much looking forward to working with Steve and I am sure you will all join me in giving him a warm welcome back to the University.
