Space Park Leicester update

The past few months have been busy for Space Park Leicester (SPL) with attendance at Farnborough Air Show, presenting to members of the Parliamentary and Scientific Committee, and presenting and attending at both the Labour and Conservative Party Annual Conferences.

Additionally, the planning permission application for Phase I of SPL has been submitted and bidding for funds has taken place for both Phase II and III. The Space Park is still scheduled to open Summer 2020.

With this in mind, here’s an update on current SPL focus:

  • Preparing to move to the build Phase of SPL in early 2019
  • Low Cost Access to Space (LoCAS) facility – a new upstream UK, high value, manufacturing facility for small to mid-range satellites to be located in SPL as part of Phase III. This has been submitted as part of a 'priority ask' from the Midlands Engine into Treasury
  • Updating the strategic marketing and comms plan for SPL including offer to businesses to relocate into SPL
  • Creating the operational practices that will allow effective and enhanced industrial-academic projects at SPL

If you run projects that you feel have a link to SPL, or wish to feature SPL please contact Helen Bevins on hjb31@le.ac.uk and we can provide you with briefing notes, marketing collateral and guidance.
